So I think I want to start a Food Porn Friday, because I am such a huge foodie. I rarely go out to eat at nicer restaurants, so these posts aren't going to be a weekly thing.
But today for lunch, I went to The Counter, which is this amazing build-your-own burger place. Burgers are quite a simple idea but can be executed in many different ways - different meat, toppings, buns, etc.
BUT OH MY GOD LOOK AT THIS BURGER.

Am I the only one who thinks breaking a perfectly runny yolk is a beautiful thing? |
I ordered my usual burger, which is a 1/3 lb of beef cooked medium rare, topped with baby spinach, gruyere cheese, roasted garlic aioli, and a fried egg (+$1) on a hamburger bun. I only eat this burger at the Counter, because it's perfectly cooked there that I'm doomed to disappointment at other burger joints. The meat was a perfect medium rare, the yolk perfectly runny, and the spinach and cheese tasted fresh.
I don't even know, but this caught my eye. The juices from the burger was sliding down the spinach stem and made this wonderfully colorful formation. I thought it was intriguing and decided to snap a photo.
At the Counter, all burgers come a la carte, meaning that french fries have to be ordered separately. They have a variety of fries, and I've tried them all, but they're so big they have to be shared, unless you get a single order, which I got. You have the option of receiving them before the burger or with the burger.
Their fries are always crispy, the right size, and never oily. They aren't over-salted or underseasoned. It's honestly worth it, and there's quite a lot for what you pay for.
The Counter doesn't seem that expensive until you start adding everything together.
For me though, it's worth it. I wouldn't usually pay this much for a burger, but this was a burger full of flavor, cooked perfectly and customized to my preference. The portion sizes are also huge, and the food is fresh, so I'm totally fine with paying that much.
However, I think my favorite thing about this place is that The Counter always uses fresh, 100% natural angus beef without hormones or antibiotics. They also have market selection, which is different in each restaurant. It features locally sourced and sustainable cheese, protein, topping, sauce, and bun choices from local chefs and customers. Today's market selection consisted of italian sausage, havarti cheese marinara sauce, and a sweet hawaiian bun.
The service is also amazing, so don't forget to tip them! Even during lunch rush, all the waiters/waitresses were amazing and always looking after the customers.
So yes, go try the Counter if there's one near you. What would you put on your burger? Leave me a comment and I might just try it! Thanks for reading!
Bye!
That looks amazing until I saw the yolk running down it. I have tried to east eggs like that but I just can't. Minus the yolk though it looks nummy! I hope you'll have a chance and stop by my blog.
